Brighton Center Receives $5,000 Grant from The Papa John’s Foundation for Building Community

(Newport, Kentucky – February 14, 2023) Brighton Center’s Youth Leadership Development has received a grant for $5,000 from The Papa John’s Foundation for Building Community.

Youth Leadership Development is an after-school program for middle school youth ages 11-15 to build leadership skills and conduct community service projects in order to empower youth to make a difference in their own lives and develop to their fullest potential. Youth who are not already involved in positive after-school activities are recruited to join Youth Leadership Development through their schools.

The Papa John’s Foundation for Building Community Fund is a program for franchisees and restaurant operators to apply for grants to support nonprofit organizations in their communities. The Foundation’s philanthropic approach focuses on three areas: Youth Leadership & Entrepreneurship, Food Security, and Food Waste Reduction. A local Papa John’s restaurant nominated Brighton Center for the Building Community Fund after witnessing the Youth Leadership Development program.

Funds will be utilized to support the efforts of the Youth Leadership Development program including college and career exploration, increasing the social-emotional skills of youth, and building a safe and connected community through experiential activities and community service projects. In addition, funds will support a $1,000 need-based scholarship for a Youth Leadership Development graduate to pursue post-secondary or vocational training.

This grant was made possible through a partnership between Brighton Center’s Youth Leadership Development and Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Regional Youth Leadership. Youth Leadership Development and Regional Youth Leadership collaborate to develop the Regional Youth Leadership Life Success Skills Session. The objectives of this session focus on delivery of skills training, including communication skills, attitude, teamwork, networking, and professionalism. In the past, this session has ended with a speed networking session introducing students to a variety of career opportunities in addition to their development and practice of their 'elevator pitch'. An additional focus of this session is around financial literacy and developing a baseline knowledge of budgeting and credit.
