(Newport, KY – July 31, 2024) Brighton Center received a $10,000 grant from First Financial Foundation to support the expansion of Financial Wellness programs into Ohio. Several organizations in Ohio, having seen the success of Brighton Center’s Financial Services Programs in Kentucky, have requested that Financial Wellness workshops and coaching be offered in Ohio as well. Due to location-restricted funding, this was not previously possible. This grant from the First Financial Foundation will make it possible.
Financial Education is an essential tool in helping individuals reach and maintain their goal of self-sufficiency. The program includes educating on budget management tools, credit review, and credit-building tools in a supportive atmosphere. One-on-one sessions allow coaches to partner with individuals and families to influence their ability to make sound financial decisions, assist them with establishing credit, and provide them with opportunities to build assets. Financial Coaches connect customers to resources for debt relief, such as tax credits and deductions, unemployment benefits, and rental and mortgage assistance. The Homebuyers Workshop covers each step of the home-buying process, from budgeting to closing.
“Financial Education is a key component to self-sufficiency,” said Jennifer Wiley, Housing and Family Well-Being Director. “Expanding into Ohio means more families in the region will have the tools to help them achieve economic stability.”
During Brighton Center’s most recent fiscal year, 87% of the individuals who attended financial education workshops increased their knowledge of financial concepts, and 98% of the individuals who attended homeownership education workshops increased their knowledge of the homeownership process.
