Center for Employment Training Newsletter March—May Editor : Melissa Barger Reporters: CET Trainee Council and staff
Two people leave,
two people join Two staff members are leaving us here at CET. Ms. Leslie Noll was here 5+ years and was our Financial Aid Officer and Data Services Specialist. Melissa Barger was our Admissions, Outreach, and Retention Specialist and has been a very valuable asset to the trainee council helping with fundraising and the boutique. Both started out here at CET as Basic Skill Instructors. They will be missed.
We also want
to announce that we have two new staff members in Automated Office Skills.
We welcome Alice Terry as our new AOS Skill Instructor. She went to Dayton
High School, and in May will graduate from Northern Kentucky University for
Organizational Training and Development. Congratulations, Alice! We also
want to welcome our new Basic Skill Instructor, Andrew Baker. He went to
Holmes High School, and graduated from Miami University in 2005 with a
degree in Psychology.
CET and YPCC’s newest staff members
Lea Cook, Young Parent Career Center Program Coordinator (Interview and article by Lee Williams) Lea joined the Young Parent Career Center as Coordinator in October 2006. The YPCC program helps young parents and students to achieve a GED, and includes daily life skills classes to better prepare students for the workplace and a more self-sufficient lifestyle. The program has six part-time GED instructors and offers
individualized
tutoring to participants based on their scores from The Adult Basic
Education (TABE) assessment. Before starting in YPCC, Lea worked as an
Employment Specialist for the Jobs Center at the One-Stop of Northern
Kentucky in Florence where she assisted men and women in getting employment
and/or grants for education. Lea is hoping to increase enrollments in the
YPCC program and she is considering changing the name of the program to be
less misleading; YPCC is not just for young parents, but for anyone between
the ages of 15 and 21 who needs assistance in receiving their GED. I wish
all the luck and hope that YPCC can continue to help young people in
achieving self-sufficiency!
Marketing. She
later went on to Gateway College, where she earned her RNA certification.
She had an opportunity to work in the emergency room, in pediatrics and also
in the intensive care units at Christ Hospital and St. Luke Hospital.
Michelle finds her new position to be very rewarding and says that “I never
had a job that I actually enjoy getting up for– that’s a great feeling”!
Michelle Reynolds-Madden, Medical Assisting Basic Skills Instructor (Interview by Pamela Price) Michelle is a very talented addition to the CET staff! She was hired on in November and is already making a positive impact on the medical assisting program. Michelle is 31 years old and has two sons, Jared(8) and Parker(2). She graduated from Newport Central Catholic High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design &
