The Medical Assisting Profession

CET's Medical Assisting Program

Medical assistants typically provide administrative and/or clinical support for physicians in a variety of settings. Local labor market projections indicate that this field will continue to provide job opportunites in Greater Cincinnati over the next decade.
CET offers a full-time medical assisting course that meets daily and provides a simulated work environment in which trainees can complete their clinical and administrative skills. Classes meet year-round from 8:30 - 4:00, enabling individuals to complete the curriculum in as little as six to eight months.

The medical assisting curriculum at CET allows for mastery of skills through a combination of book work, written tests, lectures, clinical demonstrations, and hands-on assessment. Instruction is highly individualized and small class size allows for personal attention from CET staff.

CET medical assisting students receive comprehensive training in:

bulletAnatomy and Physiology
bulletMedical Terminology
bulletPharmacology
bulletClerical Procedures
bulletVital Signs
bulletEKG, urinalysis, & many more clinical skills

Courses in refresher math and English, human development, and job preparation are also taken as part of the curriculum. When classroom training is completed, the student will participate in 160 hour externship at a local doctor's office, hospital, or clinic.

To be considered a graduate of the medical assisting program at CET, competency and attendance requirements must be met and the student must become employed in the healthcare field. Comprehensive job placement services are provided.

The median annual income for medical assistants in this region is $20,100. Many medical assisting positions also provide benefits, such as vacation time, health insurance, tuition reimbursement, and 401K.
